元年春，王正月。公何以不言即位？繼弒君不言即位。孰繼？繼子般也。孰弒子般？慶父也。殺公子牙，今將爾，季子不免。慶父弒君，何以不誅？將而不免遏惡也。既而不可及，因獄有所歸，不探其情而誅焉，親親之道也。惡乎歸獄？歸獄仆人鄧扈樂。曷為歸獄仆人鄧扈樂？莊公存之時，樂曾淫于宮中，子般執而鞭之。莊公死，慶父謂樂曰：「般之辱爾，國人莫不知，盍弒之矣？」使弒子般，然後誅鄧扈樂而歸獄焉，季子至而不變也。 |
| | In the first year [of his reign], spring, the King's first month. Why does the text not mention the duke assuming the throne? Because he succeeded an assassinated ruler, his assumption of the throne is not mentioned. Who succeeded? He succeeded Duke Ban. Who assassinated Duke Ban? It was Qingfu. After killing Gongzi Ya, now he is about to kill you; Ji Zi cannot avoid it. Qingfu assassinated the ruler, why was he not punished? Because although he was about to be punished, it was an impediment to eliminating evil. Later, when it became too late to catch up, and since there was a case to which blame could be assigned, they did not investigate the truth before executing him; this is in accordance with the principle of showing affection for one's kin. To whom should the blame be assigned? The blame was assigned to the servant Deng Hule. Why was the blame assigned to the servant Deng Hule? When Duke Zhuang was still alive, Yue had committed adultery in the palace; Duke Ban seized him and flogged him. After Duke Zhuang's death, Qingfu said to Yue: "Ban has humiliated you; all the people of the state know about it. Why not assassinate him?" He incited Yue to assassinate Duke Ban, and then executed Deng Hule while assigning the blame to him; Ji Zi arrived but did not change his stance.

冬，齊仲孫來。齊仲孫者何？公子慶父也。公子慶父，則曷為謂之齊仲孫？系之齊也。曷為系之齊？外之也。曷為外之？春秋為尊者諱，為親者諱，為賢者諱。子女子曰：「以『春秋』為《春秋》，齊無仲孫，其諸吾仲孫與？」 |
| | In winter, Zhongsun of Qi came. Who was Zhongsun of Qi? He was Gongzi Qingfu. If Gongzi Qingfu was the person, then why is he called Zhongsun of Qi? Because it associates him with Qi. Why associate him with Qi? To treat him as an outsider. Why was he treated as an outsider? The Spring and Autumn Annals conceals for the respected, conceals for the close relatives, and conceals for the virtuous. The daughter said: "Taking 'Chunqiu' as The Spring and Autumn Annals, Qi has no Zhongsun; perhaps it is our family's Zhongsun?"
