| | In summer, Duke Cheng of Xu died. The Gong ruler met with the Jin Hou and Wu Zi at Huangchi. What a remarkable achievement was the conference at Huangchi for the Wu Zi! He thus became a zi. Wu was a state of the Yi and Di, with shaven heads and tattooed bodies. It wished to use Lu's rites and Jin's authority to request the wearing of ceremonial caps and formal robes, adopting their customs from Chengzhou in order to honor the Son of Heaven. Wu has indeed advanced! Wu was a great state in the east, repeatedly bringing together small states to convene feudal lords, thus aligning with Zhongguo. If Wu could do this, then would it not be a vassal? Wu has indeed advanced! "Wang" is a respectful title. "Zi" is a humble designation. To abandon the respectful title and adopt the humble designation in order to convene with feudal lords, thereby honoring the Son of Heaven. King Fuchai of Wu said: "Bring me a fine ceremonial cap!" Confucius said, "How great it is! Fuchai was not yet qualified to speak of wearing a cap but desired to wear one." Prince Shen of Chu led his troops in an attack on Chen. Yue entered Wu.
