| | In the eighth year [of his reign], spring, the first month, on the Jimao day, there was a sacrificial offering of steam-cooked food (zheng). Zheng is an activity associated with winter; performing it in spring indicates that the timing was inappropriate. The Son of Heaven sent Ji Fu to pay a visit.

| | In summer, the fifth month, on the Dingchou day, there was another sacrificial offering of steam-cooked food. Zheng is a winter activity; performing it in spring and summer constitutes an irreverent approach to ritual sacrifices. This records the lack of reverence.

| | In winter, the tenth month, it rained snow. Ji Gong came; he then went to Ji to escort the Queen for the king. Why is there no mention of being sent? Because it was not proper to involve the great matters of ancestral temple rituals and yet make plans with us, therefore he was not given a mission. "Suì" is a term indicating continuation or succession in events. The phrase "suì ni wanghou" (then went to escort the queen) is thus omitted; some say that for the Son of Heaven, there are no external matters—once a royal command is issued, it becomes complete.
