| | In spring of the fourth year, during the second month of Wang, the Ju people attacked Qi and captured Moulu. The Commentary says: "Mentioning both attack and capture indicates what is detestable." This was the beginning of feudal lords attacking each other to seize territory, hence it is carefully recorded. On the Wushen day, Zhu Xu of Wei assassinated his ruler Wan. When a high minister assassinated his lord and used the name of the state, it was out of suspicion; he had assassinated him and taken over in his place.

| | In winter, on the twelfth day of the twelfth month, the people of Wei installed Jin. "The people of Wei" is a collective term. "To install"—this refers to someone who should not have been installed. The use of the personal name Jin indicates disapproval. Why is it said that "the people installed him"? Because he gained the support of the people. If one gains the support of the people, then he is considered virtuous. If he was virtuous, why is it said that "he should not have been installed"? The meaning of the Spring and Autumn Annals is that feudal lords support legitimacy rather than virtue.
