In the twenty-seventh year of his reign, spring, the Gong met Lady Qi Boji at Tao.

In summer, in the sixth month, the Gong convened with Duke Qi, Duke Song, Duke Chen, and Bo Zheng, and they formed a joint alliance at You. "To be together means to have unity; to unite in respecting the Zhou dynasty. Only after this could they be entrusted with authority over the feudal lords." Why was it that they were entrusted with authority over the feudal lords? Because Duke Qi had gained the support of the people. The Gong's assemblies were not recorded, as they were considered stable and secure. Alliances formed by the Gong did not specify dates, because trust was already established. Trust in their trustworthiness, and benevolence toward their kindness. There were eleven meetings where formal attire was worn, none of which involved blood oaths; this showed great trust. There were four assemblies involving armed chariots, but no major battles ever occurred; this demonstrated love for the people.

In autumn, Gongzi You went to Chen to attend the funeral of Yuan Zhong. It is recorded as "to attend the burial" rather than "died," because he was not actually buried. To say that a burial took place when there was none indicates an attempt to conceal his flight into exile.

In winter, Lady Qi Boji came. Ju Qing came to escort Shu Ji. When a feudal lord's daughter was married to a high-ranking official, the official would be in charge of arranging the marriage and receiving her. "To come" indicates that she was received as an inner wife. Because the act of receiving her as an inner wife was not considered proper, they did not grant her the title of a married couple. Duke Qi Bo came to pay homage. The Gong convened with Duke Qi at Chengpu.
