| | On the day of Lichun, all participants wore green banners and head coverings and welcomed spring outside the eastern gate of the city. The county magistrate had one young boy wear a green cap, dressed in green robes, and wait beforehand in the fields outside the eastern gate. When those welcoming spring arrived at the designated spot, the young boy emerged from the field; the people who came to welcome him would bow to him and return without performing a sacrifice. Welcoming ceremonies were not held during three seasons.
