| | Tai: The hexagrams Qian and Kun form one cycle when combined. Heaven entering Earth to interact (Tai), all things are generated thereby. The small goes out while the great comes in; Yang grows and Yin becomes perilous, as the energies of Metal and Earth combine. The Yijing says: "Tai means communication." It communicates with Heaven and Earth, extends to all categories of things; Yang energy advances inwardly while Yin energy rises and falls. The principle of rising and falling is completed in the image of Tai, forming a relationship of concealment and emergence with Qian. The three sovereigns establish the ninth line as the world; the sixth upper line and ancestral temple serve as responses. The waiting period begins on Dingyou and ends on Renyin, with accumulated calculations starting from Renyin to Xinchou, repeating in cycles. The Five Planets begin their positions with Zhenxing; the constellation Zhen descends from its position to Jiachen, dividing into twenty-eight climatic periods, with Heaven existing beneath Earth. The path of Yang gradually grows and cannot be measured to its limit; when it reaches an extreme, Tai becomes Fu. Preserving the meaning of Tai lies in line six-five. Yin occupies the position of Yang, yet can follow Yang; Yin and Yang accommodate each other, their two energies interact, ultimately completing the principle of Tai. The outer trigram is purely Yin; Yang comes forth, firmness and gentleness forming in the image of Zhen. Yang descends while rising, occupying the top of Qian to form Dazhuang.
