| | Qi Dongguo Jiang was the wife of Tang Gong and the elder sister of Qi Cui zhu's charioteer, Dongguo Yan. She was beautiful and had a fine appearance. After Tang Gong died, Cui Zi paid his condolences and became infatuated with Jiang, so he conspired with Yan to marry her.

既居其室，比於公宮，莊公通焉，驟如崔氏，崔子知之。異日，公以崔子之冠賜侍人，崔子慍，告有疾不出，公登臺以臨崔子之宮，由臺上與東郭姜戲，公下從之，東郭姜奔入戶而閉之，公推之曰：「開余。」東郭姜曰：「老夫在此，未及收髮。」公曰：「余開崔子之疾也，不開？」崔子與姜自側戶出，閉門，聚眾鳴鼓，公恐，擁柱而歌。公請於崔氏曰：「孤知有罪矣，請改心事吾子。若不信，請盟。」崔子曰：「臣不敢聞命。」乃避之。公又請於崔氏之宰曰：「請就先君之廟而死焉。」崔氏之宰曰：「君之臣杼，有疾不在，侍臣不敢聞命。」公踰牆而逃，崔氏射公中踵，公反墮，遂弒公。 |
| | After moving into her residence, she was treated as if in the palace; Duke Zhuang had relations with her and frequently visited the Cui family, which Cui Zi found out. On another day, the duke gave Cui Zi's hat to a servant, which made Cui Zi angry. He claimed illness and did not leave his house. The duke ascended a pavilion to overlook Cui Zi's residence, and from the pavilion he played games with Dongguo Jiang. The duke then went down to follow her. Dongguo Jiang rushed into the room and locked the door. The duke pushed it open and said, "Open for me." Dongguo Jiang replied, "My husband is here; I have not yet had time to braid my hair." The duke said, "Shall I cure Cui Zi's illness for you? Will you not open the door?" Cui Zi and Jiang exited through a side door, shut the gate, gathered people, and beat drums. The duke was frightened and clung to a pillar while singing. The duke pleaded with the Cui family: "I know I have committed crimes; please allow me to change my heart and serve your son." "If you do not believe me, let us take an oath." Cui Zi said, "As a subject, I dare not hear such words." He then withdrew from the situation. The duke again pleaded with Cui Zi's steward, saying, "Please allow me to die in the temple of my ancestors." The steward of the Cui family said, "Your subject Zhu is ill and not present; we attendants dare not hear such a command." The duke climbed over the wall to escape, but Cui Zi's men shot him in the heel. The duke fell back down and was thus assassinated.

先是時，東郭姜與前夫子棠毋咎俱入，崔子愛之，使為相室，崔子前妻子二人大子城、少子彊。及姜入後，生二子明、成。成有疾，崔子廢成，而以明為後。成使人請崔邑以老，崔子哀而許之。棠毋咎與東郭偃爭而不成，成與彊怒，將欲殺之，以告慶封。慶封，齊大夫也，陰與崔氏爭權，欲其相滅也。謂二子曰：「殺之。」於是二子歸殺棠毋咎東郭偃於崔子之庭。崔子怒，愬之於慶氏曰：「吾不肖，有子不能教也，以至於此。吾事夫子，國人之所知也，唯辱使者，不可以已。」慶封乃使盧蒲嫳帥徒眾，與國人焚其庫廄，而殺成、姜。崔氏之妻曰：「生若此，不若死。」遂自經而死。崔子歸見庫廄皆焚，妻子皆死，又自經而死。君子曰：「東郭姜殺一國君而滅三室，又殘其身，可謂不祥矣。」《》曰：「枝葉未有害，本實先敗。」此之謂也。 |
| | Before this, Dongguo Jiang and her former husband's son Tang Wujiu had both entered the Cui household. Cui Zi loved them and made them officials in his residence. Cui Zi previously had two sons from a different wife: the elder son Cheng and the younger son Qiang. After Jiang entered the household, she bore him two sons, Ming and Cheng. línea Cui Zi deposed Cheng because he was ill and made Ming his successor instead. Cheng sent someone to request an old man's fief from the Cui family, and Cui Zi felt compassion and agreed to it. Tang Wujiu and Dongguo Yan quarreled but failed to resolve their dispute. Thus, the two sons returned and killed Tang Wujiu and Dongguo Y an in Cui Zi's courtyard. Cui Zi became furious and complained to the Qing family, saying, "I am unworthy; I failed to educate my sons properly, leading to this situation." "I have served you, Master Qing, as the people of the state know. To disgrace your envoys is an offense that cannot be tolerated." Qing Feng then sent Lu Pu yu to lead a group of followers and the citizens to burn down Cui Zi's storehouses and stables, and killed Cheng and Jiang. Cui Zi's wife said, "To live like this is worse than death." She then hanged herself and died. Cui Zi returned home, saw that his storehouses and stables had all been burned down, and found that his wife and children were dead. He then hanged himself and died as well. The gentlemen said, "Dongguo Jiang caused the death of one state ruler and destroyed three families, and also brought ruin upon herself. She can truly be called an ill-omen." The Book of Songs says: "Before the branches and leaves cause harm, the root is already ruined." This is what it means.

| | Eulogy says: Qi Dongguo Jiang, wife of Cui Zhu, seduced and disturbed Duke Zhuang, relying on Wujiu. Disaster befall Ming and Cheng; they quarreled over fiefs and killed each other. With no recourse left for their parents, the Cui clan was thus destroyed.
