| | Cui Wensi was a native of Taishan. Wensi's family had long been fond of the teachings of Huang-Lao, and he lived beneath Qianshan. Later, he made yellow powder and red pills, built a shrine to Shifu, sold medicine in the city market, and claimed to be three hundred years old. Later, when an epidemic broke out and tens of thousands of people died from it, the local officials went to Wensi's place to request a cure. Wensi held up a red flag and tied yellow powder to it as he paraded through people's doorways. Those who drank the powder were immediately cured, and tens of thousands were saved by him. Later he left, and went to Shu to sell yellow powder. Therefore, the world valued Cui Wensi's red pills and yellow powder highly; in fact, they were almost miraculous.
