王若曰：“祖祭公，予小子虔虔在位，昊天疾威，予多时溥愆，我闻祖不豫有加，予惟敬省不吊，天降疾病，予畏天威，公其告予，懿德。”祭公拜手稽首，曰：“天子，谋父疾维不瘳，朕身尚在兹，朕魂在于天，昭王之所，勖宅天命。”王曰：“呜呼！公，朕皇祖文王，烈祖武王，度下国，作陈周，维皇皇上帝，度其心，置之明德，付畀于四方，用应受天命，敷文在下，我亦维有若文祖周公，暨列祖召公，兹申予小子，追学于文武之蔑，用克龛绍成康之业，以将大命，用夷居大商之众，我亦维有若祖祭公之执和周国，保乂王家。”王曰：“公称丕显之德，以予小子扬文武大勋，弘成康昭考之烈。”王曰：“公无困我哉！俾百僚乃心率辅，弼予一人。”祭公拜手稽首曰：“ |
| | Wang Ruo said, "Zu Jigong, I, your humble servant, am diligently in my position. The vast Heaven is swift and severe; I have committed many grave offenses. I have heard that our ancestor's health has not improved, and I feel only reverence and self-examination without comfort. Heaven has sent illness upon us, and I fear the might of Heaven. Please inform me, O Gong, of your noble virtue." Ji Gong bowed with clasped hands and kowtowed, saying, "Your Majesty, the illness of my father has not yet subsided. My body remains here, but my soul resides in Heaven. May it be made clear at King Zhao's place that I will diligently uphold the Mandate of Heaven." The king said, "Alas!" "O Gong, my venerated ancestor King Wen, the illustrious ancestor King Wu, measured the lower states and established the state of Zhou. It was the great and mighty Supreme Deity who measured their hearts and placed them in positions of virtuous governance, entrusting them to rule over all directions so as to respond to Heaven's Mandate, spreading culture among the people below. I also have my ancestor Duke Zhou, who was like a literary progenitor, along with our ancestors Zhao Gong, who now extend their guidance to me, this humble servant, encouraging me to follow in the footsteps of King Wen and King Wu, so that I may inherit and continue the achievements of Kings Cheng and Kang, thus carrying out the great Mandate. By doing so, we can pacify and dwell among the many people of the great Shang dynasty. I also have ancestors like Duke Ji, who uphold harmony in the Zhou state and safeguard the royal family." The king said, "O Gong, you extol great and illustrious virtue, thereby helping me, this humble servant, to honor the great achievements of King Wen and King Wu and to promote the glorious deeds of Kings Cheng and Kang." 允乃诏，毕桓于黎民般。”公曰：“天子，谋父疾维不瘳，敢告天子，皇天改大殷之命，维文王受之，惟武王大克之，咸茂厥功，维天贞文王之董用威，亦尚宽壮厥心，康受乂之，式用休，亦生王茂绥厥心，敬恭承之，维武王申大命，戡厥敌。”公曰：“天子，自三公上下，辟于文武，文武之子孙，大开封方于下土，天之所锡，武王时疆土，丕维周之基，丕维后稷之受命，是永宅之，维我后嗣，旁建宗子，丕维周之始并。呜呼！天子三公监于夏商之既败，丕则无遗后难，至于万亿年，守序终之，既毕，丕乃有利宗，丕维文王由之。”公曰：“呜呼！天子，我丕则寅哉！寅哉！汝无以戾反罪疾，丧时二王大功，汝无以嬖御固庄后，汝无以小谋败大作，汝无以嬖御士疾庄士大夫卿士，汝无以家相乱王室，而莫恤其外，尚皆以时中乂万国。呜呼！三公，汝念哉！汝无泯泯芬芬，厚颜忍丑，时维大不吊哉！昔在先王，我亦维丕以我辟险于难，不失于正，我亦以免没我世。 |
| | "Your decree is indeed just; may it be carried out for the benefit of all the people." Gong said, "Your Majesty, my father's illness has not yet subsided; I dare to inform Your Majesty that the great mandate of Da Yin was changed by Heaven. It was King Wen who received this Mandate and King Wu who greatly achieved it, both having rendered great service. Heaven entrusted King Wen with authority and power, and he also broadened his heart in kindness and strength, thus enjoying peace and order, thereby achieving harmony and rest. He earnestly and respectfully upheld the Mandate. It was King Wu who furthered this great Mandate and overcame his enemies." Gong said, "Your Majesty, from the Three Dukes up and down, they served under King Wen and King Wu. The descendants of King Wen and King Wu greatly expanded their fiefs in the lower lands, as bestowed by Heaven. At that time, King Wu extended his territory; this was the foundation for Zhou's great stability. This was also how Hou Ji received the Mandate from Heaven, to dwell in it forever. For our future generations, we established collateral branches of the royal family on all sides; thus began the great unification of Zhou." Alas! "Your Majesty, the Three Dukes observed how Xia and Shang had already fallen; thus they established a great system without leaving future difficulties. By doing so, for ten thousand years, order may be preserved until its end. When this is fully accomplished, there will indeed be benefit to the ancestral temple, and it was King Wen who first followed this path." Gong said, "Alas!" "Your Majesty, I must indeed be vigilant and earnest!" Earnestly! "Do not use injustice to reverse blame and illness, thereby losing the great achievements of the two kings. Do not rely on favored concubines or eunuchs to undermine the virtuous queen. Do not let petty schemes destroy grand endeavors. Do not allow favored attendants to harm the virtuous officials and high ministers. Do not permit family factions to disrupt the royal court, neglecting matters beyond its walls. Always govern with timely justice so that all nations may be harmonized." Alas! Three Dukes, you must remember this well! "Do not be indifferent and complacent, nor have a shameless face that endures disgrace; such behavior is indeed a great misfortune at this time!" "In the past, our ancestors, I also ensured that we would not place ourselves in danger through recklessness, but remained steadfast in righteousness. Thus, I was able to preserve my descendants from ruin."

No, our Zhou dynasty has established enduring laws.'" The king bowed with clasped hands and performed a kowtow in agreement.
