| | Jiu Lingzi was surnamed Huang and named Hua. He attained the art of returning youth, the essentials of fetal breathing and inner vision, as well as the Way of the Five Elements. His scripture says: "This technique can ward off the Five Armaments, repel tigers and wolves, ensure one's own safety, protect one's family, preserve descendants, maintain harmony within and without; when people see you they are pleased, when they do not see you they think of you. It is suitable for joining the army and beneficial to those traveling far away. If others plot against you, their schemes will be destroyed before they can succeed. A thousand calamities and ten thousand misfortunes will lie dormant without arising; it blocks the path of evildoers and closes the gate to monsters and demons. Those who curse or poison you will not bring disaster." The virtuous people of the world will all come to revere you; they will devote their hearts and minds, and gain the favor of the common people. Crops and silkworms flourish greatly, domestic animals multiply abundantly, servants and attendants establish stable homes, illnesses are cured, officials turn against injustice, disputes are won, and all endeavors prove favorable—thus, one can achieve lasting success in this world. Those who practice this Way will greatly benefit from its wonders." He had lived in a family for more than five hundred years, and his appearance became increasingly youthful. Later, after taking the refined cinnabar pills, he ascended to immortality and departed.
