| | Kong Yuan was a man who regularly consumed pine resin, poria cocos, and pine seeds; he became younger and stronger with each passing year, and had already lived over 170 years. When people gathered to drink wine, they would sometimes invite Yuan to propose a drinking game. Yuan would then plant his staff into the ground and stand on his head upside down, holding the wine cup with his feet and drinking it in reverse; no one else could do this. He would dig a hole by the water's edge, more than a square zhang in size, and stay inside it, abstaining from food for one or two months before emerging. Later he entered Xihua Yue and attained the Dao.
