Cao Cao said, "I defeated the bandits this year just for your sake, my slave."

| | Xun Fengqian was deeply devoted to his wife. In winter, when his wife fell ill with a fever, he went out into the courtyard to expose himself to the cold and then returned to warm her body with his own. After his wife's death, Fengqian died shortly thereafter. Because of this, he was criticized by the world. Fengqian said: "A woman's virtue is not worth mentioning; her beauty should be the main consideration." Pei Ling, upon hearing this, said: "This is merely a remark made on impulse; it does not represent the words of great virtue. I hope later generations will not be confused by these words."

| | Jia Gonglv's later wife, Guo Shi, was extremely jealous. They had a son named Limin, who was born in the year Zaihou. When Chong returned from outside, a wet nurse was holding the child in the courtyard. Seeing Chong, the child joyfully jumped up and down. Chong then went to the wet nurse's hands and kissed the child. Guo Shi saw this from afar, thinking that Chong loved the wet nurse, and immediately had her killed. The child grieved and cried bitterly, refusing to drink milk from anyone else, and eventually died. Guo Shi remained childless until the end of her life.

孫秀降晉，晉武帝厚存寵之，妻以姨妹蒯氏，室家甚篤。妻嘗妒，乃罵秀為「貉子」。秀大不平，遂不復入。蒯氏大自悔責，請救於帝。時大赦，群臣咸見。既出，帝獨留秀，從容謂曰：「天下曠蕩，蒯夫人可得從其例不？」秀免冠而謝，遂為夫婦如初。 |
| | Sun Xiu surrendered to the Jin dynasty, and Emperor Wu of Jin treated him kindly and favored him greatly. He married Sun Xiu to his aunt's younger sister, Kuai Shi; their marital bond was very strong. His wife once became jealous and scolded Xiu, calling him a "hu zhi" (a derogatory term for a young animal). Xiu was greatly upset by this and never entered the house again. Kuai Shi deeply regretted her actions and blamed herself, then pleaded with the emperor for help. At that time there was a general amnesty, and all officials were present. After the audience, the emperor alone detained Xiu and casually said to him: "The world is vast and open. Can Lady Kuai be allowed to follow this example?" Xiu removed his hat in apology, and thus the couple reconciled as they were before.

韓壽美姿容，賈充辟以為掾。充每聚會，賈女於青璅中看，見壽，說之。恆懷存想，發於吟詠。後婢往壽家，具述如此，并言女光麗。壽聞之心動，遂請婢潛修音問。及期往宿。壽蹻捷絕人，踰牆而入，家中莫知。自是充覺女盛自拂拭，說暢有異於常。後會諸吏，聞壽有奇香之氣，是外國所貢，一箸人，則歷月不歇。充計武帝唯賜己及陳騫，餘家無此香，疑壽與女通，而垣牆重密，門閤急峻，何由得爾？乃託言有盜，令人修牆。使反曰：「其餘無異，唯東北角如有人跡。而牆高，非人所踰。」充乃取女左右婢考問，即以狀對。充秘之，以女妻壽。 |
| | Han Shou was handsome and well-favored; Jia Chong appointed him as an official subordinate. Whenever Jia Chong held gatherings, his daughter would watch from behind a green lattice screen and saw Shou; she was charmed by him. She often thought of him with longing, which inspired her to compose verses expressing her feelings. Later, a servant girl went to Shou's home and fully described the situation, also mentioning how beautiful Jia's daughter was. Shou, upon hearing this, felt stirred in his heart and thus asked the servant girl to secretly convey messages between them. When the time came, he went there for a stay. Shou was exceptionally agile and climbed over the wall to enter secretly; no one in the household knew about it. From then on, Jia Chong noticed that his daughter was especially attentive to her appearance and seemed unusually cheerful and happy. Later, when meeting with his officials, Jia Chong noticed a strange fragrance on Shou. It was an incense from foreign tribute; once worn by someone, its scent could last for months without fading. Jia Chong reasoned that Emperor Wu had only granted this incense to himself and Chen Qian; no other family possessed it. He suspected that Shou was having an affair with his daughter, but the walls were high and thick, and the gates were tightly secured—how could they have met? He then pretended to say there had been a theft and ordered someone to inspect the wall. The person sent back reported: "Everything else is normal, but there are signs of footprints in the northeast corner as if someone had been there." "But the wall is so high that no one could have climbed over it." Jia Chong then summoned his daughter's attendants and questioned them, and they immediately confessed the truth. Jia Chong kept it a secret and married his daughter to Shou.

| | The wife of Wang Anfeng often addressed him as "Qing Anfeng." Anfeng said, "For a woman to address her husband with the term 'qing' is disrespectful according to propriety. Do not do this again." The wife replied: "Because I love you dearly, that's why I call you 'qing'; "If I do not call you 'qing,' who else would call you 'qing'?" Thus, he allowed it and continued to tolerate her.
