| | Emperor Dezong of Tang wanted to flee westward, and an astrologer presented a report saying: "Whenever you encounter the word 'lin,' you should stop." The emperor said, "How could I dare to order me to stop among trees?" Jiang Gongfu said. "That is not the case; it's just that the place also corresponds to it." They then summoned Jia Yinlin, the county magistrate of Fengtian, to pay homage to the emperor at his temporary residence. The emperor observed that Yinlin had a bold and heroic appearance, was from a family known for loyalty and valor, and that his name matched the words mentioned by the astrologer. Yinlin was the nephew of Jia Xiu, who had served at the end of the Tianbao era. The emperor therefore summoned him into his private quarters to examine the depth and breadth of his strategies. Yinlin, in front of the imperial couch, used a tablet to draw on the ground and presented strategies for attack and defense; the emperor was greatly impressed by him. Yinlin presented his report saying. "I dreamed yesterday that the sun fell to the ground." I used my head to lift the sun back into the sky." The emperor said, "This journey of mine has already been predestined." He then appointed Yinlin as Shiyushi (Attendant for Imperial Inspection), to oversee and investigate matters at the temporary court, and soon afterwards promoted him to Zuo Changshi (Left Attendant).
