| | Mian: Wu Lian Mian, also the name of a kapok tree. Wu Lu says its fruit resembles a wine cup and contains cotton-like fibers similar to silkworm cocoons that can be used for making cloth; it is also called Xieluo. The Luofu Mountain Records state: "In the first month [of the lunar calendar], the flowers resemble peonies, and the fruits appear before the leaves do. Inside the fruit is cotton-like fiber, which ripens when silkworms mature." The Guangzhou Records say: "Its branches resemble those of a paulownia tree, and its leaves are like hetao (hickory) leaves but slightly larger."
