《抱樸子》曰:長生之要,在乎還年之道也,延年除病其次焉。有不以自伐,若年尚少壯,而知還年陰丹以補腦,彩七益於長谷者,不服餌藥,亦不失一二百歲。凡仕之道有首萇:才所不達而困思之,力所不勝而張舉之,深憂重怨,悲哀喜樂,汲汲所欲,戚戚所患,寢息失時,沉醉吐嘔,飽食即臥,跳走喘息,歡呼哭泣,陰陽不交,積傷至盡,乖養性之方。耳不極聽,目不久視,坐不至疲,先寒而衣,先熱而解,不欲極饑而食,食不過飽;極渴而飲,飲不過多;不欲甚勞,不欲多汗及多唾;奔車走馬,極目遠望,多食生冷;冬不欲極溫,夏不欲極涼;大寒大熱,大風大霧,不欲冒之;五味不可偏多。凡言傷者,亦不便覺,久則損壽耳。是以善攝生者,臥起有四時之早晚,興居有制和之常制,調利筋骨,有偃仰之方,杜疾閑邪,有吞吐之術;流沖營胃,有補瀉之法,節宣勞逸,有與奪之要。忍怒以全陰,抑喜以養陽,然後先將服草木以救虧缺,後服金丹以定無窮。長生之理,盡於此矣。若有欲決意任懷,自謂達識知命,不泥異端極情,不營久生者,安可告養生之言哉。
