1 疑贤:
自古人君莫不愿得忠贤而用之也。既得之,莫不访之于衆人也。忠于君者,岂能必利于人,苟无利于人,又何能保誉于人哉。故常愿之于心,而常失之于人也。非愿之之不笃而失之也。所以定之之术非也。故为忠者获小赏而大乖违于人,恃人君之独知之耳,而获访之于人,此为忠者福无几而祸不测于身也。得于君,不过斯须之欢,失于君,而终身之故患,荷赏名而实穷于罚也。是以忠者逝而遂,智者虑而不为,为忠者不利,则其为不忠者利矣。凡利之所在,人无不欲,人无不欲,故无不为不忠矣。为君者以一人而独虑于衆奸之上,虽至明而犹困于见暗,又况庸君之能睹之哉。庸人知忠之无益于己,而私名之可以得于人,得于人,可以重于君也。故笃私交,薄公义,为己者殖而长之,为国也也疑者抑而割之,是以真实之人黜于国,阿欲之人盈于朝矣。由是田,季之恩隆,而齐,鲁之政衰也。虽成成恐戒或威之市朝,示之刀锯,私欲益盛,齐,鲁日困,何也。诚威之以言而赏之以实也。好恶相错,政令日弊。昔人曰:为君难,不其然哉。
