公言非法度，不出于口；行非至公，不萌于心。治身则伯夷之洁也，俭啬则季文之约也。尽忠则史鱼之直也，刚平则山甫之励也。总兹四德，式是百辟，夙夜匪懈，以事一人，枉丝发，树私恩，不为也；讨无礼，当强御，弗避也。是以功隆名显，在世孤特，不获恺悌宽厚之誉，享年垂老，至于积世。门无立车，堂无宴客，衣不变裁，食不兼味。虽《易》之贞厉，《诗》之《羔羊》，无以加也。 |
| | The official did not speak of anything that was against laws and regulations. If an action was not in the highest public interest, it would not arise from his mind. In cultivating himself, he was as pure as Boyi; in frugality, he was as restrained as Jiwen. In loyalty, he was as upright as Shiyu; in firmness and fairness, he was as resolute as Shanfu. Combining these four virtues, he set an example for all officials, diligently serving the sovereign day and night without respite. He would not even twist a single hair or show private favor; such actions were never done by him; To punish those who acted impudently and to confront the strong and defiant, he did not avoid it. Therefore, his achievements were great and his name renowned; in the world he stood alone and outstanding. He did not receive praise for being kind-hearted and broad-minded, but lived to an old age, passing on through generations. There were no carriages standing at his gate; no banquets for guests in his hall; his clothes did not change from their original cut, and his food never had more than one flavor. Though the "Zhenli" section of the Book of Changes and the poem "Gao Yang" from the Book of Songs, there was none to surpass him.

| | Clearly devoted to public affairs, indeed she was the Empress. Born to embody virtue and righteousness, she became a pillar of Han's administration. She regarded evildoers as enemies and upright men as allies. When firm, she did not yield; when gentle, she did not swallow injustice. She flattered the Son of Heaven to pacify the land and its people.
