武宗崩，仁宗即位。延祐二年冬十一月，封帝為周王。三年春，議建東宮，右丞相鐵木迭兒欲固寵，建議立英宗為皇太子。帝少有英氣，興聖皇太后憚之，其幸臣失烈門等亦恐帝立將不利於己，遂附和鐵木迭兒，譖帝於仁宗及皇太后。三月，命帝出鎮雲南，置常侍府，遙授中書左丞相禿忽魯、大司徒斡兒朵、中政使尚家奴、山北遼陽等路蒙古軍萬戶孛羅、翰林侍讀學士教化等並為常侍，中衛親軍都指揮使唐兀、兵部尚書賽罕八都魯為中尉。敕陝西、四川省臣各一員護送帝至雲南。
