8  | 上一日召侍臣密语之曰：『太子薨，长孙弱不更事，主器必得人。朕欲建燕王为储贰，以承天下之重。庶几宗社有托。』翰林学士刘三吾曰：『立燕王，置秦、晋二王于何地？且皇孙年长，可继承矣。』太祖默然。是夜，焚香祝于天曰：『后嗣相承，国祚延永，惟听于天耳。』遂立允炆为皇太孙。皇太孙一日坐东角门，谓太常卿黄子澄曰：『我非先生辈，安得至此？然皇祖万岁后我新立，诸王尊属各拥重兵，何以制之？』子澄曰：『此不难处置。』太孙曰：『请试言之。』子澄曰：『诸王虽有护卫之兵，仅足自守。朝廷军卫，犬牙相制，若有事，以天下之众临之，其能当乎？！汉七国非不强大而卒底灭亡者，盖以大制小，以强制弱，势必不支。』太孙喜曰：『兹事终仗先生矣！』 |
