2  | 夫文士引用，不為典據。採淖方成語以入史，自是《通鑒》之失。乃援以証實是書，紕繆殊甚。且禍水滅火，其語亦有可疑。考王懋竑《白田雜著》有《漢火德考》，曰漢初用赤帝子之祥，旗幟尚赤。而自有天下後，仍襲秦舊，故張蒼以為水德。孝文帝時，公孫臣言，當改用土德，色尚黃，其事未行至孝武帝改正朔，色尚黃，印章以五字，則用公孫臣之說也。王莽篡位，自以黃帝之後，當為土德，而用劉歆之說，盡改從前相承之序，以漢為火德。後漢重圖讖，以赤伏符之文改用火德。班固作志，遂以著之高帝紀。而後漢人作《飛燕外傳》有禍水滅火之語，不知前漢自王莽、劉歆以前，未有以漢為火德者，蓋其誤也云云。據此，則班固在莽、歆之後，沿誤尚為有因，淖方成在莽、歆之前，安得預有滅火之說？其為後人依托，即此二語亦可以見。安得以《通鑒》誤引，遂指為真古書哉？ |
