「以真息為火,其亦有說乎?」

曰:「有之。『謾守藥爐看火候,但安神息任天然。丹灶河車休矻矻,鶴胎龜息自綿綿。』古仙之言,不一而足。然非以息為火也。火,神火也,息則火之橐龠也。今夫神氣相守之時,神則無為,而氣機則不能以不動,故一闔一闢,與經脈上下相為流通。所以覺其動者,誰也?神也。一氣流通,元神獨覺,神與氣融,寬急相得,是火力調勻,然後丹成而藥就也。予嘗以橐龠喻真息,蓋亦有理。今夫冶人之鑄金也,必先鼓之以橐龠,然後火發而金始溶。若徒以浩蕩之風吹之,則火氣散漫,而金終不可化矣。何者?浩蕩之風,往來不常,即眾人以喉之息也,橐龠之風,綿綿不絕,即真人以踵之息也。神依息而互融,即火之得乎風也;氣得神而自化,即金之化於火也。如斯而喻,昭乎明矣!」

或問:「火符進退,朝屯暮蒙,其旨同異?」

曰:「予昔未得師指,竊以火候難明。亦嘗按之周天,准之卦0氣,分更分漏,徒費講求。而後乃今,豁然大悟。乃知丹經萬卷,火記六百,皆可言下而廢。所謂真火無候,大藥元斤,誠哉是言!不我欺也。夫煉藥有內外,故火候有繁簡。所謂內煉,一言以蔽之曰:『錦綿若存而已矣。』外藥者,非前所論之外藥也,蓋指天元地元而言。符者,謂與天道相符合也。丹法以月之庚甲,象藥材之老嫩;日之子午,為火候之消息。所謂朝屯暮蒙,不過言其進退之則,有如是耳。得其意忘象可也。《悟真篇》云:『內藥還同外藥.內通外亦須通。丹頭和合類相同,溫養兩般作用。內有天然真火,爐中赫赫常紅。外爐加減要勤功,絕妙無過真種。』真種者,人元也。是火符之斷案也。」
