10  | 忠義出天資忠義守節之士，出於天資，非關居位貴賤，受恩深淺也。王莽移漢祚，劉歆以宗室之雋、導之為逆，孔光以宰相輔成其事。而龔勝以故大夫守誼以死。郭欽、蔣詡以刺史、郡守，慄融、禽慶、曹竟、蘇章以儒生，皆去官不仕。陳咸之家，至不用王氏臘。蕭道成篡宋，褚淵、王儉，奕世達宦，身為帝甥、主婿，所以縱臾滅劉，唯恐不速。而死節者乃王蘊、卜伯興、黃回、任候伯之輩耳。安祿山、朱泚之變，陳希烈、張均、張垍、喬琳、李忠臣，皆以宰相世臣，為之丞弼。而甄濟、權臯、劉海賓、段秀實，或以幕府小吏，或以廢斥列卿，捐身立節，名震海內。人之賢不肖，相去何止天冠地履乎！劉歆不孝事親孝，故忠可移於君，是以求忠臣必於孝子之門。劉歆事父，雖不載不孝之跡，然其議論每與向異同。故向拳拳於國家，欲抑王氏以崇劉氏，而歆乃力贊王莽，倡其凶逆，至為之國師公，又改名秀以應圖讖，竟亦不免為莽所誅，子棻、女愔皆以戮死。使無道每如是，不善者其知懼乎！ |
