19  | 右晁錯傳第十九孟子曰：矢人豈不仁於凾人哉？矢人惟恐不傷人，凾人惟恐傷人，巫匠亦然，故術不可不愼也。凡世之所須，闕一不可，四人者，各以其技食功，心何所異？而矢人與匠獨被不仁之名，故擇術者必愼其初。晁錯治尚書，眀帝王之論，與董賈同稱，惟其初以申商刑名之學雜之，故不純於儒，至欲用術數敎太子，終被峭直刻深之名，豈必其資近是耶？亦術不可不愼也。觀其論三王莫不本於人情，如生而不傷，厚而不困，扶而不危，與夫取人以已，內恕及人，所惡不強，所欲不禁，至諷孝文以絶秦亂法，除苛解嬈，寛大愛人者，此豈申商之所及哉？然錯己學其術矣，不幸議論時時有之，故世得以議已，欲一洒之不可也。若其所行事，亦不過患諸侯強大，欲稍削之，與按袁盎受吳王金，諸侯誠驕，盎誠賄固不得不治，此豈一切俗吏刑名刻深之意乎？會盎讐錯得以吳楚反事，藉其口而錯，竟以寃誅，其後鄧公對孝景以錯尊京師萬世之利，而卒受大戮，內杜忠臣之口，外為諸侯報讐，而景帝亦喟然恨之，班固亦曰：「錯雖不終，世哀其忠」。則是錯之始死，其是非固已白矣，而司馬遷獨以為變古亂常不死，則亾夫錯預為國計，慮山東反者抗言而削之，豈變古亂常哉？若指其所欲更令三十章者耶，則當時文帝旣不盡聽，而諸侯固已讙譁，以不盡聽未嘗行之言，而實其變古亂常之罪。嗟乎！遷亦不能無牽於世議哉？ |
