19 | 右晁錯傳第十九孟子曰:矢人豈不仁於凾人哉?矢人惟恐不傷人,凾人惟恐傷人,巫匠亦然,故術不可不愼也。凡世之所須,闕一不可,四人者,各以其技食功,心何所異?而矢人與匠獨被不仁之名,故擇術者必愼其初。晁錯治尚書,眀帝王之論,與董賈同稱,惟其初以申商刑名之學雜之,故不純於儒,至欲用術數敎太子,終被峭直刻深之名,豈必其資近是耶?亦術不可不愼也。觀其論三王莫不本於人情,如生而不傷,厚而不困,扶而不危,與夫取人以已,內恕及人,所惡不強,所欲不禁,至諷孝文以絶秦亂法,除苛解嬈,寛大愛人者,此豈申商之所及哉?然錯己學其術矣,不幸議論時時有之,故世得以議已,欲一洒之不可也。若其所行事,亦不過患諸侯強大,欲稍削之,與按袁盎受吳王金,諸侯誠驕,盎誠賄固不得不治,此豈一切俗吏刑名刻深之意乎?會盎讐錯得以吳楚反事,藉其口而錯,竟以寃誅,其後鄧公對孝景以錯尊京師萬世之利,而卒受大戮,內杜忠臣之口,外為諸侯報讐,而景帝亦喟然恨之,班固亦曰:「錯雖不終,世哀其忠」。則是錯之始死,其是非固已白矣,而司馬遷獨以為變古亂常不死,則亾夫錯預為國計,慮山東反者抗言而削之,豈變古亂常哉?若指其所欲更令三十章者耶,則當時文帝旣不盡聽,而諸侯固已讙譁,以不盡聽未嘗行之言,而實其變古亂常之罪。嗟乎!遷亦不能無牽於世議哉? |
