8  | 疑獨註：舜與湯一道也。舜順得而湯逆取。順者由天而之人，逆者反道而入德。舜讓北人無擇，見其復命之深。又言湯伐桀得天下以讓卞隨、務光，示湯無心於天下，所以伐之者為民非為己也。伊尹相湯伐桀之事，具載於《書》，而湯讓天下未嘗經見，莊子製名以寄讓王之意。 |
| 14 | 疑獨註：孔、孟稱夷、齊為聖人，以信於後世。莊子所載者，史臣之言，其意盖欲矯世俗殉物之弊，所言不能無過。此篇本旨，以起高尚遠退之風，使責夫康、懦夫立，然亦未能無弊。夷、齊之弊，使暴虐之君得肆其毒而莫之敢抗也。盖不得其時，則制行以矯世，亦有以使之然。若因時乘理，顺物之自行，則無迹而無弊矣。 |
