38  | 犬生三，犬；二，師；一，玂。此與豬生子義同。名亦相出入。○犬，音宗。玂，音祈。未成毫，狗。狗子未生乾毛者。長喙，獫。短喙，猲獢。《詩》曰：「載獫猲獢。」○獫，力驗切。猲，音歇。獢，虛嬌切。絕有力，狣。ζ，狗也。《詩》曰：「無使ζ也吠。」○狣，音兆。狗屬。 |
| 39 | ［疏］「犬生」至「狗也」。○釋曰：此別狗屬也。云「犬」者，《說文》云：「狗之有縣者也。象形。孔子曰：『視犬之字，如畫狗也。』」犬生三子則曰犬，二曰師，三曰玂。毫是乾毛也。犬子未生乾毛者名狗。喙，口也。犬長口者名獫，短口者名猲獢。壯大絕有力者名狣。ζ即狗也。《說文》：「孔子曰：『狗，叩也。叩氣吠以守』」也。○注「此與」至「出入」。釋曰：云「此與豬生子義同」者，案《釋獸》註云：「豬生子常多，故別其少者之名。」犬生子亦常多，而此亦別其少者之名，故云義同。云「名亦相出入」者，謂此犬、師、玂，與彼豵、師、特，字雖小異，大意則同。故云「亦相出入」。○注「《詩》曰：『載獫猲獢。』」○釋曰：《秦風·駟鐵》篇文也。毛傳云：「田犬也。長喙曰獫，短喙曰猲獢。」鄭箋云：「載，始也。始田犬者，謂達其搏噬，始成之也。」○注「《詩》曰：『無使ζ也吠。』」○釋曰：《召南·野有死》篇文也。毛傳云：「ζ，狗也。非理相陵則狗吠。」是也。 |
