9  | 武林郁永河《裨海纪游》曰：红毛船用板两层，斫而不削，制极坚厚，中国人目为夹板船，其实整木为之，非板也。其帆如蛛网盘旋，八面受风，无往不顺，较之中国帆樯，不遇顺风，则左右戗折，倾险迂艰者，不翅天壤。然巧于逆风者，反拙于乘顺风。若与中国舟航并驰，顺风中，彼反后矣。故遇红毛追袭，即当转柁，顺风扬帆，可以脱祸。若仍行戗风，鲜不败者。况彼船大如山，小舟方畏其压，安能仰攻。红夷恃船大帆巧，横行海外，轻视诸国，所至侵夺，顾两败于交趾。交址拒敌之法，创造小舟，名曰轧船。长仅三丈，舷出水面一尺，两头尖锐，仿佛端阳竞渡龙舟。以二十四人操楫，飞行水面，欲退则反其棹，变尾为首，进退惟意，俨然游龙。船中首尾，各驾红夷巨炮，附水施放，攻其船底，底破即沉。虽有技巧，无所施设，于是大败。至今红毛船过广南，见轧船出，即胆落而去。中国东南半壁皆大海，日与西夷互市，轧船之制，亦所宜讲。 |
