3  | 袁大回來時，也就背著孩子計議道：「這孩子自幼這樣的癖性兒，怕不到大來走入空門一路麼？」袁大想了一想道：「孩子不吃葷，他知得什麼哩。明兒不叫他知道，暗暗地拌在飯菜裡面。看他可吃得下去。」兩箇計議定了。到次日，悄悄買了些魚鮮，煮熟了，熬的似汁的一般，下在素食裡給孩子吃。孩子那裡知道，只認是素的，吃了一箸道：「怎麼這樣腥哩，似有葷的麼？」他娘道：「你想是熬不住，想要吃葷罷。平白的這淨素裡面，那裡生出葷來哩。」孩子聽了不敢再說，那箸兒方舉了起來，要向菜邊去，忽然哇的一聲吐了箇滿桌子。看著他面上登時變了色，那雙眼兒都直了。駭得袁大和妻兒都抖了起來，忙上前抱住孩子，只顧拍道：「不吃罷，好端端地怎麼吐了。」說著兩箇你埋怨我，我埋怨你。又不敢說明了，被老兒知道，要責備兩口子舞弄孩子。只是悄悄的服侍孩子，抱到床邊放倒了，給他臥著。 |
