老君之弟子庚桑楚,即亢倉子也。偏得老君之道,北居畏壘之山,其臣之畫然,智者去之,其妾之挈然,仁者遠之擁腫之與居,鞅掌之為使。居三年,畏壘大壤,其民相與言曰:庚桑子,吾日計之而不足,歲計之而有餘,庶幾其聖人乎,胡不尸而祝之,社而稷之乎。庚桑子聞之,南面而不釋然,曰:春氣發而百草生,正得秋而萬寶成,豈無得而然哉。吾聞至人尸居環堵之室,而百姓不知所如往,今以畏壘之細民而竊竊然欲俎豆予於聖人之問,吾是以木釋於老聘之言。南榮趣問曰:趣之年已長矣,將惡乎託業一庚桑子曰:全汝形,抱汝生,無使汝思慮營營。趣曰:目之與形,吾不知其異也,而盲者不能自見。耳之與形,吾不知其異也,而聾者不能自聞。心之與形,吾不知其異也,而誑者不能自得。形之與形亦以闢矣,而物或問之,欲相求而不相得。今謂趣日全汝形,抱汝生,無使思慮營營。趣勉聞此道,達於耳矣。庚桑子辭盡曰:奔蜂不能化蕾燭,越雞不能伏鵠卵,魯雞固能矣。雞之與雞,其德非不同也,有能與不能者,其材有巨細也。今吾材不足以化子,子胡不南見老子耶。南榮趣乃煎糧七日七夜至老君所,老君曰:子自楚所來乎。趣曰:唯。老君曰:子何乃與人偕來之眾也。趣懼然顧其後,老君曰:子不知吾所謂乎。趣俯而慚,仰而嘆曰:今者吾忘吾答,因失吾問。老君曰:何謂也。趣良久復問曰:不知乎人謂我朱愚,知乎反愁我軀,不仁則害人,仁則反愁我身,不義則傷彼,義則反愁我已,我安逃此而可乎此三言者。趣之所患,願因楚而問之。老君曰:向吾見若眉睫之問,吾固已得汝矣。今汝又言而信之,何規規然若喪父母揭竿而求諸海也,汝亡人哉。罔罔乎汝欲反其情性而無所自入,可憐哉。南榮趣請就舍,召其所好,去其所惡,十日自愁而復見老君。老君曰:汝自洗濯,孰哉鬱鬱乎然,而其中津津乎猶有惡也。夫外韆者不可繁而捉將內撻,內獲者不可謬而捉將外撻,外內韃者道德不能持,而況放道而行者乎。趣曰:里人有病,里人問之,病者能言其病,然病猶未病也。若趣之聞大道,譬猶飲藥以加病者也。趣之願聞衛生之經而已。老君曰:而能抱一乎,能勿失乎,能無卜筮而知吉凶乎,能止乎,能已乎,能舍諸人求諸己乎,能鯈然乎,能恫然乎,能兒子乎,終日號而啞不嘎,和之至也,終日視而目不噴,偏不在外也,終日握而手不,共其德也。行不知其之,居不知所為,與物逶迤而同其波,是衛生之經也已。趣曰::然則至人之德已乎。曰:非也,是乃所謂冰解凍釋者也。夫至人相與交食于地,而交樂于天,不以人物利害相櫻,不相與為怪,不相與為謀,不相與為事,鯈然而往,恫然而來,是謂衛生之經已。曰:然則是至乎?曰:未也,吾故告汝曰能兒子乎,兒子動不知所為,行不知所之,身若槁木之枝,而心若死灰。若是者,禍亦不至,福亦不來。禍福無有,烏有人災。趣再拜致謝而去,精神曉靈,十日不食,如享太牢,智略天地,察分秋毫。
