嘗觀劉向《災異五行傳》,後世或以為牽合。天固未必以屑屑為事。然殃咎各以類至,理不可誣,若遽以牽合少之,則箕子之五事,庶徵相為影響顧,亦可得而議乎?試以一身言之,五行者,人身之五官也,氣應五摹,五氣調順,則百骸俱理,一氣不應,一病生焉。然人之受病,必有所屬,太陽為水,厥陰為木是也。而太陽之證,為項強,為腰疼,為發熱,為惡寒,其患雜然而並出,要其指歸則一,出於太陽之證也。猶貌不恭而為常雨、為狂、為惡也。況五官之中,或貌言之間兩失其正,即《素問》所謂陽明厥陰之合病也。其為病又豈一端之所能盡哉。以一身而察之,則五事庶徵之應,蓋可以類推矣。劉向《五行傳》直指某事為某征之應,局於一端,殆未察醫書兩證合病之理也。後之人主五事多失其正,受病蓋不止一證,宜乎災異之互見迭出也,局以一徵論之未為得也。夫冬雷則草木華,蟄蟲奮,人多疾疫,一炁使然。景星慶雲,不生聖賢則產祥瑞,象見于上則應在于下。如虹霓,妖氣也,當大夏而見,則不能損物,百物未告成也;秋見則百糓用耗矣,或入人家而能致火,飲井則泉竭,入則化水,和氣致祥,妖氣致異,厥有明驗,天道感物,如響斯應,人事感天,其有不然者乎?如風花出海而為飄風,山川出雲而為時雨,農家以霜降前一日見霜,則知清明前一日霜止,霜降後一日見霜,則知清明後一日霜止,五日十日而徃前後同占,欲出秧苗,必待霜止,毎歲推驗,若合符節,天道果逺乎哉。感於此則應於彼,有此象則有此數,乃不易之理也。

陰陽家多拘忌,逹者固不當一切求合。然吉凶影響,要不可廢。如酒醋遇弦而生涎,糟遇潮而作湧,雞子日中則正,日昃則偏,鵲避歲君,燕避戊巳,一炁運化,萬物莫逃,人亦天地之一物,豈能獨立於陰陽之外哉。自羲和之學失其世守,而文字之傳或多剽切,世罕精於此道。如造作一法,人所當用,大要先論身壬之法,則大不可曉。夫所謂身壬者,陰陽二命皆起於壬也。其詩有曰,陽遇牛門當返照,陰逢雞嶺急須回。故十歲起亥,陽命遇丑而返,陰命遇酉而回,舉世用之,殊不察理之所在。其法一十起亥,二十在丑,三十在子,四十在亥矣。今逐年行運,二十九歲在邜,四十乃在寅,寅與亥相去四位,一凶一吉,何去何從,先賢立法,宜不如此之舛且戾也。惟朱子羙家藏其祖秘書,得其全法,頗合於理,未嘗語人。其詩有曰,陽遇牛門當返照,陰逢雞嶺急須回。跳過三宮雙女位,一年一位逆歸來。陰遇午申為大利,陽逢寅子永無災。得此全法,乃合身壬之運,其流年所至,悉與起數脗合。如四十在亥,流年四十亦至亥,並無差舛,乃知剽切之學,誤天下後世多矣。此大而要切者其疏繆且如此,況其它星煞乎?大抵吉凶星煞,不外乎數,此法自壬而起,壬水數一,故起法悉本於一,運於三而成於五,合三五一之數以為用,此所謂身壬之法也。立法而不本於理,不合乎數,吾未敢以為智者之剏法也。陽命一十起亥,二十子,三十丑,三十一越三位而在巳,順至子得四十。陰命逆行,一十起亥,二十戍,三十酉,三十一申,三十四至巳,三十五丑。
