顏回曰:「吾无以進矣,敢問其方。」仲尼曰:「齊,吾將語若!釋文:「齊,本亦作齋。」有而為之,其易邪?郭云:「有其心而為之,誠未易也。」易之者,皞天不宜。」成云:「爾雅:『夏曰皓天。』言其氣皓汗也。」案:與虛白自然之理不合。蘇輿云:「易之者,仍師心也。失其初心,是謂違天。」於義亦通。顏回曰:「囘之家貧,唯不飲酒、不茹葷者數月矣。如此,則可以為齊乎?」成云:「葷,辛菜。」曰:「是祭祀之齊,非心齊也。」囘曰:「敢問心齊。」仲尼曰:「一若志,宣云:「不雜也。」無聽之以耳而聽之以心,成云:「耳根虛寂,凝神心符。」無聽之以心而聽之以氣。成云:「心有知覺,猶起攀緣;氣無情慮,虛柔任物。故去彼知覺,取此虛柔,遣之又遣,漸階玄妙。」聽止於耳,宣云:「止於形骸。」兪云:「當作『耳止於聽』,傳寫誤倒也。此申說無聽之以耳之義,言耳之為用,止於聽而已,故無聽之以耳也。」心止於符。兪云:「此申說無聽之以心之義,言心之用,止於符而已,故無聽之以心也。符之言合,與物合也,與物合,則非虛而待物之謂矣。」氣也者,虛而待物者也。兪云:「此申說氣。」宣云:「氣無端,即虛也。」唯道集虛。虛者,心齊也。」成云:「唯此眞道,集在虛心。故虛者,心齊妙道也。」顏回曰:「回之未始得使,未得使心齊之教。實自回也;自見有回。得使之也,未始有回也。既得教令,遂忘物我。可謂虛乎?」夫子曰:「盡矣。成云:「心齊之妙盡矣。」吾語若!若能入遊其樊而無感其名,汝入衛,能遊其藩內,而無以虛名相感動。入則鳴,不入則止。入吾言則言,不入則姑止。無門無毒,宣云:「不開一隙,不發一藥。」郭云:「使物自若,無門者也;付天下之自安,無毒者也。」李楨云:「門、毒對文,毒與門不同類。《說文》:『毒,厚也。害人之草,往往而生。』義亦不合。毒蓋壔之借字。說文壔下云:『保也,亦曰高土也,讀若毒。』與郭注『自安』義合。張行孚說文發疑云:『壔者,累土為臺以傳信,即《呂覽》所謂「為高保禱於王路,寘鼓其上,遠近相聞」是也。』禱是壔之。壔者,保衛之所,故借其義為保衛。《周易》『以此毒天下,而民從之』,《老子》『亭之毒之』,與此『無門無毒』,三『毒』字,皆是此義。《廣雅》:『毒,安也。』亦即此訓。楨案:壔為毒本字,正與門同類,所以『門、毒』對文,讀『都皓切』,音之轉也。」案:宣說望文生義,不如李訓最合。門者,可以沿為行路;毒者,可以望為標的。无門无毒,使人无可窺尋指目之意。一宅而寓於不得已,則幾矣。成云:「宅,居處也。處心至一之道,不得已而應之,非預謀也,則庶幾矣。」
