27  | 明武宗時，庶常散館，有林某，多作古字，帝見卷中有「秌」字，因作「咊」字試之，林不能識，帝曰：「秋可以作秌，和不可作咊乎？汝讀書少，故思以怪文陋，宜更勤學。」乃放歸。林既出，通國揶揄，去留無所，遂流寓京師賣字。一日，帝微行過之，見林書法秀逸，聯句亦佳，因問美才何不應試，乃鬻字也？林見帝儀服偉麗，意必貴人，因揖坐，告之曰：「某故庶常，緣不識御書，奉旨歸學，貧不能裝，故留此耳。」帝曰：「何不為客？」林曰：「人皆知逐臣，誰肯容者？」帝曰：「吾當書薦。明日己午，候此毋誤。」林叩姓名爵里，帝曰：「久自知之。」遂去。明日向午，有內侍持黃封一、白金百兩授林曰：「齎此親投，無竊發。」黃封大書：山東巡按開拆。林知有異，急辦裝東行，至謁巡按。閽者難之，乃委黃封而歸。俄店佣報巡按來謁，林倉皇接見，巡按曰：「奉旨受代，請即入署宣旨。」林偕往，啟讀則山東巡按之命也。 |
