23  | 公教人極嚴，諸生惴惴畏服。其學皆自小學始，次及四書、諸經，日與學者講說經訓，滾滾不窮，待其曉解，方授別義。人來質疑，即命其徒取某書某卷所載以對，曰：「若背文暗誦，恐或誤人。」初，孛朮魯公至自南陽，從公受業。久之，謂人曰：「某游江右，獲識諸老，聞其論議，或有不讓。今見蕭先生，使某自不能措一辭，信知吾道之無窮也。」其它弟子若同毅、陳■〈懱鎩怠⒅潛、李材、盧烈等，多知名於時。公德善化及遠邇，雖武夫悍卒亦知景慕。征西兵嘗屯長安，大帥一日入朱張里，里人驚惶。帥諭止之曰：「汝勿怖，聞此有蕭先生者，見之即歸，吾非侵擾汝也。」有郡吏乘馬城南暮歸，遇盜逐之。吏思所以自解曰：「我乃蕭維斗也。」盜即引去。未幾盜獲，吏適按之。盜曰：「吾向欲劫汝騎，汝以為蕭維斗也，吾故不忍。寧知汝紿我耶！」 |
