56  | 次日，執貓將殺之，因讓之曰：「爾貓也，而人言耶？」貓應曰：「貓誠能言，然天下之貓皆能言也，庸獨我乎？公既惡之，貓請勿言。」某公怒曰：「是真妖也！」引槌將擊殺之，貓大呼曰：「天乎冤哉！吾真無罪也。雖然，願一言而死。」某公曰：「若復何言？」貓曰：「使我果妖，公能執我乎？我不為妖，而公殺我，則我且為厲，公能復殺之乎？且我嘗為公捕鼠。是有微勞於公也。有勞而殺之，或者其不祥乎？而鼠子聞之，相呼皆至，據廩以糜粟，穴簏而毀書，揓無完衣，室無整器，公不得一夕安枕而臥也。妖孰甚焉？故不如舍我，使得效爪牙之役，今日之惠，其寧敢忘？」某公笑而釋之，貓竟逸去，亦無他異。 |
