《卷七 如是我聞一》
52  | 雍正甲寅，余初隨姚安公至京師，聞御史某公性多疑。初典永光寺一宅，其地空曠，慮有盜。夜遣家奴數人，更番司鈴柝，猶防其懈，雖嚴寒溽暑，必秉燭自巡視，不勝其勞。別典西河沿一宅，其地市廛櫛比，又慮有火，每屋儲水甕，至夜鈴柝巡視，如在永光寺時，不勝其勞。更典虎坊橋東一宅，與余只隔數家，見屋宇幽邃，又疑有魅。先延僧誦經放焰口，鈸鼓琤琤者數日，云以度鬼；復延道士設壇召將，懸符持咒，鈸鼓琤琤者又數日，云以驅狐。宅本無他，自是以後，魅乃大作。拋擲磚瓦，攘竊器物，夜夜無寧居。婢媼僕隸，因緣為姦，所損失者無算。論者皆謂妖由人興。居未一載，又典繩匠衚衕一宅，去後不通聞問，不知其作何設施矣。姚安公嘗曰：「天下本無事，庸人自擾之。」其此公之謂乎？ |
