溈山大圓禪師曰:「道人之心,質直無偽,無背無面,無詐妄心。一切時中,視聽尋常,更無委曲,亦不閉眼塞耳。但情無附物即得。從上諸聖只是說濁邊過患,若無如許多惡覺情見想習之事。譬如秋水澄駛,清淨無為,淡無礙,喚作道人,亦名無事人。」或問:「頓悟之人更用修否?」曰:「若真實悟得底,他自知時節。修與不修,是兩頭語。今雖從緣得一念,頓悟自理,猶有無始習氣未能頓淨,須教渠淨除現業流識,即是修也。不可別有一法教渠修行趣向。從聞入理,聞理深妙,心自圓明,不居惑地,縱有百千妙義,抑揚當時,此乃得坐披衣自解作活計始得。以要言之,則實際理地,不受一塵;萬行門中,不捨一法。若也單刀直入,則凡聖情盡,體露真常,理事不二,即如如佛。」當時學者常疑佛性本業具足,何須復修。設不修行,無緣證聖。情隨向背,終落斷常。不知三世如來,十方菩薩,所有修習,皆自隨順覺性而已。則大溈所謂「修與不修是兩頭語」,不亦宜乎!
