卷七

63 胡子厚與予論詩曰:「人有恆言曰:唐以詩取士,故詩盛;今代以經義選舉,故詩衰。此論非也。詩之盛衰,系於人之才與學,不因上之所取也。漢以射策取士,而蘇李之詩、班馬之賦出焉,此豈系於上乎?屈原之《騷》,爭光日月,楚豈以騷取人耶?況唐人所取五言八韻之律,今所傳省題詩,多不工。今傳世者,非省題詩也。姑以畫論,晉有顧凱之,唐有吳道玄,晉唐未嘗以畫取士也。至宋則馬遠、夏珪,不足為顧、吳之衙官,近代吳小仙、林良,又不足為馬、夏之奴僕。畫既有之,詩亦宜然,謂之時代可也。」餘深服其言。唐子元薦與予書,論本朝之詩:「洪武初,高季迪袁可潛一變元風,首開大雅,卓乎冠矣。二公而下,又有林子羽、劉子高、孫炎、孫蕡、黃元之、楊孟載輩羽翼之。近日好高論者曰沿習元體,其失也瞽。又曰國初無詩,其失也聾。一代之文,曷可誣哉!永樂之末至成化之初,則微乎𧳍矣。弘治間,文明中天,古學煥日:藝苑則李懷麓張滄洲為赤幟,而和之者多失於流易;山林則陳白沙莊定山稱白眉,而識者皆以為傍門。至李何二子一出,變而學杜,壯乎偉矣。然正變雲擾而剽襲雷同,比興漸微而風騷稍遠,唐子應德箴其偏焉。嘉靖初,稍稍厭棄,更為六朝之調。初唐之體,蔚乎盛矣,而纖艷不逞,闡緩無當,作非神解,傳同耳食。陳子約之議其後焉。」張子愈光,滇之詩人也。
