32  | 晋灭虞既虏百里奚以为秦穆公夫人媵于秦百里奚亡秦走宛楚鄙人执之穆公闻百里奚贤欲重赎之恐楚人不与乃使人谓楚曰吾媵臣百里奚在焉请以五羖羊皮赎之楚人遂许与之当是时百里奚年已七十馀穆公释其囚与语国事谢曰臣亡国之臣何足问穆公曰虞君不用子故亡非子罪也固问语三日穆公大说授之国政号曰五羖大夫百里奚让曰臣不及臣友蹇叔蹇叔贤而世莫知臣尝逰困于齐而乞食䬹人蹇叔收臣臣因而欲事齐君无知蹇叔止臣臣得脱齐难遂之周周王子颓好牛臣以养牛干之及颓欲用臣蹇叔止臣臣去得不诛事虞君蹇叔止臣臣知虞君不用臣臣诚私利禄爵且留再用其言得脱一不用及虞君难是以知其贤于是穆公使人厚币迎蹇叔以为上大夫以上史秦本纪 |
