1 玄膚論》者,陸生所述也。陸生既聞性命之學於聖師,豁然有契於其衷,乃述所傳,為論二十篇,總七乾餘言,名曰《玄膚》。

玄膚者,言玄理膚淺,非精詣也。去聖愈遠,大道失傳,狂瞽之師,各售所見。類皆竊近似以文神奸,故有口禪之衲,兢斗機鋒,壟斷之夫,縱談黃白,人元則以閨丹首亂,服食則以金石戕生,學術不明,流禍無極,仁者憫焉!始生以文儒究心二氏,垂二十年,錯足無虞之林,置身不理之口,屢躓屢奮,獨以初誠不退,獲茲遭遇也。夫性由自悟,命假師傳。茲二語者,尚有遺論。何則?自性自度者.雖上根利器,亦須領悟於言下,藉非密旨親承,徒師心以自用。猶之瞽不任杖,倀倀何之乎?道之不得聞者,其故有三,朵二朵頤世味,以妄為常,虞有耽空,害有之侮者,名曰不信之心;少知向慕,(上四中口下月)挂俗網,不即解脫,姑置而少持者,名曰不了之心;具曰子聖,不售善言,高談雄論,千人自廢者,名曰不虛之心。三者有一焉,聖師不顧也,良友不親也。因循積習,沒齒無聞,斃而後已,殊可哀也!生為此懼,早夜遑遑,不敢自棄。是以摒去妄心,沉潛至道也。靜養之暇,仰思聖師誨諭之旨,聊複述之篇章,冒犯忌諱,所不敢辭。要在開示真宗,流通正脈,使人知鄉道而已。或謂古人著書,多道成之後,子急於有言,無乃躁乎?吾聞太上立德,其次立言,言之不可已也。吾為其次者,夫道則進於德矣。進於德,不言可也。夫德竊有志焉,而未之逮也。
