86  | 本朝大臣準予謚者，內閣侍讀酌擬十六字呈大學士閱定八字，繕單請旨。孔繡山憲彞官侍讀時，最喜擬謚，又獨出心裁，力求新異。如華亭張詩ぎ司空祥河奉旨圈出「溫和」二字，亦繡山所擬也。同治丁卯，商城周芝臺相國薨於位。相國生平於謚法愛「敏」字，每為人言，將來得附趙吳興、董華亭之稱，於願斯足。予謚之旨下，予適司其事，遂以「文敏」列第一。同人知予與商城為姻婭，而黃縣師相又商城兒女親家也，滿侍讀錦繡谷成亦感商城知遇，催繕奏折。繕定送黃縣閱看，黃縣忽變異，以為必須另擬。繡谷爭之再四，執不可，竟以「文勤」作首。奏上，奉旨圈「文勤」二字。事有定數，非可強求。信然！ |
