六籍之阙也久矣而礼为甚汉兴区区掇拾于秦火之馀而淹中古经旋复散失所存者十有七篇而已周官虽后出而司空之篇竟莫得补二戴所𫝊又徃徃杂以秦汉之纪然则学者之欲覩夫成周三千三百之目之全固亦难矣冝乎其学之寥寥而莫讲也虽以韩子之贤尚苦难读而谓于今诚无所用矧他人哉至宋庆厯元佑诸儒先后慨然有志于复古及朱子乃始断然谓周礼为礼之纲仪礼其本经而礼记其义疏于是创为条目科分胪列出入经𫝊补其遗阙以为王朝邦国家乡学礼而丧祭二礼则以属门人黄氏其有功于学者甚大然其书浩博穷乡晚进有未易以遽究者祁门汪先生德辅父间尝因其成法别为义例以吉凶军宾嘉五礼之目㑹稡成书名曰经礼补逸辞约而事备读者便焉学礼之士诚能因汪氏之所缉以达于朱子之书则三千三百之目虽不可复覩其全然郁郁乎文之盛岂不若身履而目击之矣乎昔者窃闻之礼乐之在天下有君无臣则不能以眀制作之本臣能而君不之好则议论无益于当时必有大有为之君而复有善制作之臣因治定功成之馀以明中和之化而后礼乐之兴可必然则此其时也惜乎先生老且病矣明良在上宁不有徴于斯文矣乎先生生朱子之乡尝㳺畨昜吴公可翁之门笃志古学老而弥厉著书满家真古所谓乡先生者也间出是书以相视且谓先人与吴公为同志友故俾序焉鲁于先生无能为役然承命不敢辞也洪武二年嵗在己酉秋八月下浣临江曾鲁序

自乐亡而经行于世惟五易诗书春秋虽中不无残阙而未若礼经甚焉然三百三千不𫝊葢十之八九矣朱子尝考定四经谓三礼体大未易绪正晚年惓惓是书未就而没遂为万世缺典克寛伏读而加惋惜焉世之三礼所𫝊曰周礼曰仪礼曰礼记其实礼记乃仪礼之𫝊仪礼乃周礼之节文而三礼之要则在乎吉凶军賔嘉五礼之别也何则吉礼之别十有二以禋祀祀昊天上帝以实柴祀日月星辰以槱燎祀司中司命飌师雨师以血祭祭社稷五祀五岳以狸沈祭山林川泽以疈辜祭四方百物以肆献祼享先王以馈食飨先王以祠春飨先王以禴夏飨先王以尝秋飨先王以烝冬飨先王凶礼之别有五以丧礼哀死亡以荒礼哀凶札以吊礼哀祸烖以禬礼哀围败以恤礼哀冦乱賔礼之别有八春见曰朝夏见曰宗秋见曰觐冬见曰遇时见曰㑹殷见曰同时聘曰问殷俯曰视军礼之别有五以大师之礼用衆以大均之礼恤衆以大田之礼简衆以大役之礼任衆以大封之礼合衆嘉礼之别有六以饮食之礼亲宗族兄弟以昏冠之礼亲成男女以宾射之礼亲故旧朋友以飨燕之礼亲四方之宾客以胀膰之礼亲兄弟之国以贺庆之礼亲异姓之国此其大较也然仪礼十有七篇吉礼之存惟特牲馈食篇乃诸侯国之士祭祖庙之礼少牢馈食及有司彻篇乃诸侯卿大夫祭祖祢庙之礼凶礼之存唯丧服篇乃制尊卑亲疎冠绖衣服之礼士丧礼篇乃士丧其亲自始死至既殡之礼士虞礼篇乃士既葬其亲迎精而反日中而祭于殡宫之礼宾礼之存唯士相见礼篇乃士以职位相亲始承贽相见之礼聘礼篇乃诸侯相交久无事使相问之礼觐礼篇乃诸侯秋朝天子之礼嘉礼之存唯冠礼篇乃士之子始加冠之礼士昏礼篇乃士娶妻之礼乡饮酒礼乃乡大夫賔兴贤能饮酒之礼乡射礼篇乃士为州长㑹民射于州序之礼燕礼篇乃诸侯燕飨其臣之礼大射仪篇乃诸侯将有祭祀之事与羣臣燕饮之礼公食大夫礼篇乃诸侯以礼食隣国小聘大夫之礼自此之外如朝觐㑹同郊祀大飨帝大丧之礼盖皆亡逸况军礼无存非关细故此岂散佚已在于夫子正礼之前哉是以当时吉礼之失如鲁君之郊僭天子之礼孟献子之禘七月而为之夏父弗綦跻僖公而逆祀三桓大夫立公庙于私家管仲镂簋朱紘晏平仲豚肩不掩豆至于太庙说笏与燔柴于奥诸侯宫县而祭以白牡之类是也凶礼之失如伯鱼丧出母期而犹哭子路姊丧过而弗除子上之母死而不丧成人兄死不为衰有为慈母练冠为妾齐衰者有居丧沐浴佩玉与浴于爨室者有朝祥暮歌与既祥而丝屦组缨者以至小敛而奠于西方既祖而反柩受吊有以大夫而遣车一乘有葬其夫人而醯醢百瓮之类是也宾礼之失如天子下堂而见诸侯诸侯朝觐而私觌主国王臣以私好而朝诸侯者有焉诸侯以强大而盟天子之三公者有焉庭燎之百侯国用之绣黼丹朱中衣大夫用之者又有焉嘉礼之失如鲁昭公娶于吴则不告天子鲁哀公为重肆夏以飨宾天子以丧宾燕者有之夫人出境而飨诸侯者有之大夫反坫与不识淆烝者又有之军礼之失如齐桓公亟举兵作伪主以行鲁庄公及宋战以失御而败战而复矢始于升陉败而髽吊始于台鲐以至蒐田不时丘甲始作之类可考也又况出师专征习视故常争地黩武嵗无虚日使礼经旧典具存于当时则五礼之失岂至如是之甚哉由是知周之叔世礼典已多散逸葢不特火于秦而亡于汉也今考于仪礼周官大小戴记易诗书春秋传孝经家语及汉儒纪録凡有合于礼者各著其目列为五礼之篇名曰经礼补逸是编也于周公经世之典虽未能极意象之微然五礼之大体盖略包举无遗庶㡬学者于此俾由得失以观其㑹通而天之所秩与造化之运不容息者卒归于性命之正则三代可复也明时制作之盛或有择焉亦区区爱礼之一得云新安汪克寛序
