《苗慄縣志卷十六》
25  | 光緒丙子冬，淡地奉檄開採煤油；役久而功不就，罷之。初，貓里內山有石穴，產煤油可佐燈燭，歲鬻紅夷以為常；久之，夷與夷交哄，幾釀大釁。上憲惡其生事也，封之。邇因開闢台山，當事重議開採。起營汛，募夷人為工師。其法：就該地鑿一井，徑僅尺許；鑄鐵管如煙鹵，每段長丈餘，逐層銜接；用鐵錐重可千斤，旁以木架、繩索為轆轤轉之。令錐下擊，所遇粗沙大石，俱糜碎成泥，真巧思也。其井深數十丈，油日所出數百斤。未幾，井底鐵管被敲擊逼切，氣閉塞不複通一竅；水嚙石泐，鐵錐中斷，萬夫拔之莫能起。夷人目眙氣結，口噤吤不能出一聲而休焉。後遂無敢問津者。吳子曰：是役也，甫施功，鄉愚皆知其妄；即為之，亦必試可乃已，於軍需始有裨益。不知者視作大工役，如時文家小題大做法。番漢伻來，歲糜金錢十數萬，旋開旋塞，勞而無功；猶幸考績者之從寬典耳。 |
