李攀龙于鳞所为古今诗删成凡数年而殁殁而新都汪时元谋梓之走数千里以序属世贞曰是唯二君子之有味乎诗也不有存者谁与任殁者世贞谢不敏已喟然而叹曰嗟嗟否欤然哉葢孔子尝称删诗书云至笔削春秋取独断其于诗也未尝不退而与游夏商之也当三代盛时国中之乐奏而畅天地之和歌咏盛德大业合而名之曰雅颂野之人人遘其触发而名之若青苹之末而动于地曰风顾其循性蓄㫖雍如穆如则亦雅颂类也三代而降天下多感慨而鲜称述故诗在下而不在上葢风之用广而雅颂微矣夫子寔伤之故称删删者删其不正以归乎正也乃说者谓一二逸诗岂无可当于德音而郑卫哇丽淫佚诵而使君子哕之小夫壬人以其说津津于其口惩者一而导者十乌能无疑删哉夫岂亦秦火厄鲁壁讹毛苌辕固生之徒不能亲受游夏之㫖而漫为说也乃于鳞之为删则异是彼其所上下者虽号称数千年其所近者仅风而已其所近而云雅颂者百固不能一二也而于鳞之所取则亦以能工于辞不悖其体而已非必尽合于古所谓发乎情止乎礼义兴观羣怨之用备而后谓之诗也是故存诗而曰删曰删者删之馀也为若不得已而存也夫以孔子之于诗犹不能废游夏而于鳞取其独见而裁之而遽命之曰删彼其见删于于鳞而不自甘者宁无反唇也虽然令于鳞以意而轻退古之作者间有之于鳞舎格而轻进古之作者则无是也以于鳞之毋轻进其得存而成一家言以模楷后之操觚者亦庶乎可矣葢于鳞之所最善为世贞其属存于鳞删者不少然自戊午而前及它倡和之什耳其人雅自信落落寡与家僻处济上则于鳞之于今贤士大夫多所与而少所见可知也问为继于鳞志者如之何曰代益之不失所以精之意而已矣友人呉郡王世贞撰
