《卷二十 灤陽續錄二》
7  | 昌吉未亂以前，通判赫爾喜奉檄調至烏魯木齊核檢倉庫。及聞城陷，憤不欲生，請示溫公曰：「屯官激變，其反未必本心。願單騎迎賊於中途，諭以利害。如其縛獻渠魁，可勿勞征討；如其梟獍成羣，不肯反正，則必手刃其帥，不與俱生。」溫公阻之不可，竟橐鞬馳去，直入賊中，以大義再三開導。賊皆曰：「公是好官，此無與公事。事已至此，勢不可囘。」遂擁至路旁，置之去。知事不濟，乃掣刀奮力殺數賊，格鬭而死。當時公論惜之曰：「屯官非其所屬，流人非其所治，無所謂狥縱也。釁起一時，非預謀不軌，無所謂失察也。奉調他出，身不在署，無所謂守禦不堅與棄城逃遁也。所劫者軍裝庫，營弁所掌，無所謂疏防也。於理於法，皆可以無死，而終執『城存與存、城亡與亡』之一言，甘以身殉。推是志也，雖為常山、睢陽可矣。」故於其柩歸，罔不哭奠。而於屯官之殘骸歸屯官為賊，以鐵㔍自踵寸寸㔍至頂。亂定後，始掇拾之。，無焚一陌紙錢者。 |
