20  | 太祖問趙韓王：「儒臣中有武勇兼濟者何人？」趙以辛仲甫為對，曰：「仲甫才勇有文，頃從事於郭崇，教其射法，後崇反師之。贍辨宏博，縱橫可用。」遂召見。時太祖方以武臣戡定寰宇，更不暇他試，便令武庫以烏漆新勁弓令射。仲甫輕挽即圓，破的而中。又取堅鎧令擐之，若被單衣。太祖大稱愛。仲甫奏曰：「臣不幸本學先王之道，願致陛下於堯、舜之上，臣雖遇昌時，陛下止以武夫之藝試臣，一弧一矢，其誰不能？」上慰之曰：「果有奇節，用卿非晚。」後易攵歷險易，雍熙三年參大政。公嘗為起居舍人，使契丹，虜主曰：「中朝黨進者，真驍將也。如進輩有幾？」虜所以固矜者，謂進本虜族，中國無之。公亟對：「若進輩鷹犬駑材爾，行伍中若進者不可勝數。」虜主少沮，意欲執之，辛曰：「兩國以誠講好，今渝約見留，臣有死而已。嘗笑李陵輩苟生甘恥於羊酪之域，無足取也。」契丹因厚修遣禮送之，度其志必不可奪也。 |
