《卷十七 宮語》
1  | 廣州諸大縣，其村落多築高樓以居。凡富者必作高樓，或於水中央為之。樓多則為名鄉。遙望木棉榕樹之間，矗𡗓烟波，方正大小，一一相似，勢如山嶽之峙，皆高樓也。樓基以堅石，其崇一丈七八尺。墻以磚或牡蠣㱿，其崇五六丈。樓或單或複，複者前後兩樓，盤𢌞相接，雨水從露井四注，名囘字樓。罩以鐵網銅罛，隱隱通天。樓內分為三重，每重開三四小牖以瞭望。頂為戰棚，積兵器砲石其上，以為禦敵之具。寇至則一鄉婦女，相率登樓，男子從樓下力鬭。鬭或不勝，則寇以鞦韆架巨木撞樓，或聲大銃擊之，或以烟火焚薰。樓中人不能自固，爭從樓窻自墮，以求緩須臾之死，慘不可言。是樓雖壯觀瞻，亦寇盜之招，此鄉落之莫可如何者也。 |
