至於六年一祭之議。十月祭地之議。禁中望祀之議。說本悠謬。夫軾之主合祭也堅。然其辨如彼。其謬如此。劉安世曰。臣等所守。乃先王之正禮。軾之議。皆後世之便宜。可謂深得其情者。明夏言疏。謂元豐元佑紹聖三議。皆主合祭。而卒不可移者。以郊賚之費。每傾府藏。故從省約。安簡便耳。亦未嘗以分祭為非禮也。則天地合祭。雖主是說者。亦不能自以為是矣。說者又以召誥用牲於郊。牛二。為合祭天地之証。是又不然。  欽定書傳曰。用牲於郊。牛二。注疏謂以後稷配。故牛二。蔡傳則云祭天地也。蔡但言祭天地。不言合者。天地各攻其位。位成而祭之也。疑此時南北郊之名已立。言郊者。統天地言之歟。祭雖有冬夏至之分。而此於位之初成。非常祀之時可比。故同日而舉也。此亦足破傳注之惑。而奪議者之所據矣。紹聖三議。黃複言南郊合祭。自古無有。止因王莽諂事元後。遂躋地位。合席共牢。逮乎先帝。始厘正之。陛下初郊。大臣以宣仁同政。複用王莽私意。合而配之。瀆亂典禮。此言深悉合祭之病根。明嘉靖議分合祭之禮。議者多據周禮。以分祭為是。惟霍韜言周禮莽賊偽書。不足引據。夏言疏駁之曰。合祭以後配地。實自莽始。莽既偽為是書。何不削去圜丘方澤之制。天地神祇之祭。而自為一說耶。此言足明分祭之可據。兩議可為萬世定論矣。夫合祭分祭。理有攸歸。及今已無異論。然當前代盈廷屢議時。主合祭者。往往不能奪分祭者之理。可見人心不可泯。而主分祭者。往往不能屈合祭者之勢。可見人欲之不易克。觀明世宗南北郊之制甫定。神宗萬歷三年。閣臣張居正進郊禮圖冊。仍以孟春合祭為說。其言曰。冬至極寒。而祼獻於星露之下。夏至盛暑。而駿奔於炎之中。時義為戾。夫身為大臣。不以敬天勸民相儆勖。而以便安逸豫為逢迎。隱微深痼。前後一轍。可也夫。我 朝定南北郊之祭。  天子歲必親行。破累代之陋規。遵古經之正禮。可為萬世法矣。
