3  | 祖常立朝既久，多所建明。尝议：今国族及诸部既诵圣贤之书，当知尊诸母以厚彝伦。又议：将家子弟骄脆，有孤任使，而庶民有挽强蹶张老死草野者，当建武学、武举，储材以备非常。时虽弗用，识者韪之。祖常工于文章，宏赡而精核，务去陈言，专以先秦两汉为法，而自成一家之言。尤致力于诗，圆密清丽，大篇短章无不可传者。有文集行于世。尝预修《英宗实录》，又译润《皇图大训》、《承华事略》，又编集《列后金鉴》、《千秋记略》以进，受赐优渥。文宗尝驻跸龙虎台，祖常应制赋诗，尤被叹赏，谓中原硕儒唯祖常云。 |
