176  | 許琰，字玉重；長洲人，邑庠生。五月一日，聞北都陷，痛哭呼天；遍請當事起兵，誓以身殉。夜解帶自縊，家人解之；復至呂仙祠自縊，陸道士救免。投胥江，值潞藩舟，援之出；贈以金，不受。之其徒丁鉞武家宿，又欲赴水；身臂遍書「崇禎皇帝」四字，宛轉哀號，路人流涕。次日，鉞武往報其弟勸之歸，進以飯；曰：『聖天子如此慘亡，我何忍下咽』！嚼甌吞之，喉腫嘔血，吐舌寸餘而絕。琰生平志行矜卓，年十七，刲股愈母疾者再；忠孝乃天性也。贈五經博士。 |
