11  | 二十一年春正月，以英吉利兵艦攻陷虎門外沙角、大角兩礮臺，禠琦善職，命奕山為靖逆將軍，馳赴廣東軍營。琦善以二十年十月至廣州，悉反林則徐所為，恐和議之不速成也，撤各隘兵以媚敵。水師提督關天培偵知敵人日夜增造小船及攻具，並召集販煙各艇以為戰備，密報琦善，請增兵，不許，伯麥遂以十二月突攻陷沙角及大角礮臺，副將陳連陞戰歿，天培及總兵李建鈺、游擊馬辰等尚分守鎮遠、威遠各礮臺，兵各僅數百。再請增兵，省城文成亦力求，琦善置不問，惟移書義律，力伸和議，於賠償煙價外許開放廣州，割讓香港，歸還浙江俘虜以贖定海。草約成，以聞，帝不許，至是再下宣戰之諭，命奕山為將軍，楊芳、隆文為參贊大臣，馳赴廣東，逮琦善入京，以祁𡎴代之。二月，英吉利兵艦攻陷虎門礮臺，美、法兩國商人遞書任調停，不許。琦善既與英人訂立草約，而宣戰之諭忽至，琦善恐甚，惟飾美女、列珍味盛饗英使，而義律覺事已中變，遂於是月，連攻橫當、虎門各礮臺，皆陷，提督關天培戰死。 |
